Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Academy was established in 1973 with the visionary planning and concerted efforts of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the technical support of the then Soviet Union. Initially its main objective was to produce trained navigators, marine engineers and fish processing technologists for deep sea fishing vessels operated under Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC)
